Just Make It

If you make stuff, life is always interesting. Art, fiber, critters, creation, reading, prayer, serenity, and insanity...this is my way. Maybe it is yours as well.

I am a Compassionate Companion Of Christ. We are a tiny new order of men and women who pour themselves out in the service of others by walking with them in their difficult journeys. We companion anyone at all, anywhere, who are undergoing the suffering of illness, dying, bereavement, poverty, old age, or hunger. Our job is to see Christ in the suffering and to offer love, dignity, and help where possible in His name. We strive to let them know that they are children of God and that He is with them always regardless of external circumstances. How we do this is the purpose of this blog. Our symbol is the compass, the first part of the word "compassion" and the visible representation of our vocation to serve wherever and whoever we are called to serve.

A Good Quote

"Emotionalism — the very cheap gas that always leaves one stranded"
- Elizabeth Scalia (the Anchoress)

I love this.  In one small phrase is summed up everything that I have long thought about the overtly emotional, abandoned swooning that goes on in church under the guise of 'feeling' the Spirit.  It is disconcerting, embarrassing, and silly and it bespeaks small faith I think.

It is part and parcel of the mindset that announces that they 'didn't get anything' out of the homily/service/music in church that morning.  They forget - we aren't there to GET something, but to GIVE something; our hearts, souls, minds, and strength.  We receive everything in the Eucharist - Christ himself, body, blood, soul, and divinity.  Why would anybody require more than that?

Mass is NOT an entertainment although today you would be excused during some liturgical deviations for thinking that it is. Spectacle is not in it folks.  The ultimate spectacles were the Passion, Crucifixion, Resurrection, Ascension, and anything we produce with bad ersatz ballet, puppets, clowns, rewording of prayers, or the like, does NOT add one jot to the original realities.  They are rather pathetic excuses for showboating and 'oh look how holy am I' antics.
God has given us himself.  It is so much more than enough.
We cannot outdo this spectacle!
